Photorejuvenation is commonly referred to as simply IPL or Photofacials.  IPL is ideal for improving skin tone.  The IPulsed Laser Light Therapy - Photo Facial ResultsPL/Photofacial process effectively treats sun damage, sun spots, spider veins, cherry angiomas and Rosacea and gives the skin a softer and more even appearance.  IPL provides the safest, most comfortable Photofacials available with little or no recovery time.  The Palomar IPL System has a larger skin contact area than most lasers and is able to pulse light over a larger area.  This ensures a faster treatment.  Treatments are quick (approximately 30-45 minutes for face) and the integrated cooling system makes them far more comfortable than with other lasers.  Many people have IPL treatments done during a lunch break and go right back to work looking great.
Any area of the body, except for around the eyes, can be treated with the Palomar IPL.  The hand piece is moved over the skin as it pulses light.  The light is absorbed by the pigment in sun damage/spots and the blood in vessels.  These spots and/or vessels typically fade within two weeks.  Immediately after treatment, redness and a sensation similar to mild sunburn can be expected.    In some cases, minor swelling may also occur.  These are temporary reactions and usually subside within 2-24 hours.  Cold gel or ice packs may be applied if desired.
Sun spots/sun damage will become darker and dry.  They will gradually be shed from the skin within 1-2 weeks.  A mineral powder make up may be applied if desired.  It is not recommended to exfoliate the treated area.  The darkened and dry spots should NEVER be picked at or removed.  They will shed on their own so please be patient.
Areas treated for Rosacea will have decreased redness within a week.
Spider veins/blood vessels/cherry angiomas may either disappear or become darker before fading (completely or partially) within approximately 14 days.
Pulsed Light ResultsIf additional treatments are desired, they may be done two or more weeks apart to give the skin time to shed any darkened areas from the previous treatment.  The number of IPL/Photofacials recommended for a clear result varies from person to person and depends on skin tone, amount and depth of sun damage.  Generally, the greatest results are achieved with the first treatment (for pigmented areas).  And additional treatments would treat residual pigment and blend the areas.
The ideal candidate for IPL/Photofacial has fair skin.  However, darker skin tones have been treated successfully.  If there is any question or doubt about the success of treatment for a particular skin tone, it is advised to consult with a laser technician.
